Nordic market assessment and entry 

If your organisation is looking at the possibility to expand into the Nordic countries, I can help you with assessments of your fundraising and income potential in the markets. Or even help you establish your new operations or office.

 

I am a local and I have produced market assessments and reports for a variety of INGOs, and advised on their market potential across all Nordic countries. I have set up and run three INGO start-ups in Sweden – ActionAid (2006), Sweden for UNHCR (2012) and International Rescue Committee (2019).  

Fundraising strategy and planning processes

No real growth can be achieved with "business as usual". It's important to know where you want to be in the future and to set clear, aspirational  targets. You should then identify specific strategic priorities for the organisation for the next 3-5 years and plan what tactic you will need to reach your targets. 

I have long experience of strategic planning within organisations. I can help you and your team with your strategy process and your planning. I have run large operations myself and consulted both Swedish and international NGOs. 

Workshops, training and mentorship

Do you want to increase the overall fundraising knowledge within the organisation? Or does your board or management team need better insight into what fundraising really means? Maybe the team wants an in-depth understanding of fundraising strategy and tactics? Or you have an employee who needs to develop their skills?

I have worked in the industry for 30 years and love to share my experiences and knowledge. I support with everything from overall presentations to specific workshops or mentorship for individuals.

About Katinka

I've been driving growth for NGOs for 30 years

In 2018 I started Fundraising Support AB after a long and successful career in the NGO sector. My vision as a consultant is to use my experience, knowledge and creativity to help non-for-profit organisations to grow and reach their full potential. 

I started working as a fundraiser at Greenpeace in 1990. And since then I have had a strong passion for the craft and the profession. I am driven by engaging the public and companies through donations and to generate growth and resources for organisations.

 

Over the years, I have had leadership roles at well-known brands in the sector such as Greenpeace, ActionAid and UNHCR. I have managed to build successful operations by running effective recruitment programs, relationship-building loyalty activities, integrated fundraising campaigns, smart PR activities and strategic and business partnerships. I have developed senior leadership teams, run strategic planning processes and implement administrative routines.

UNHCR success in Sweden

In 2012 I was hired by UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency, to start up and run the Swedish National Partner - Sweden for UNHCR.  

 

In just 4 years the fundraising and communication organisation I built up had gone from nothing to be the fifth largest in private sector income on the Swedish market and have a prompted brand awareness of 70%. When I left at the end of 2017, we not only had 70 000 committed donors but also several large leadership giving partnerships securing an long-term income for UNHCR’s important mission.

International Rescue Committee (IRC) looked to grow its market presence in Sweden. I was first asked to compile a report that presented the Swedish civil society and fundraising market, and to oversee, and contribute to, the production of a detailed 5-year business case and budget. When it was decided to establish an office in Sweden I managed and supported all areas of the process. The office in Stockholm opened in October 2019.

Operation Smile in the UK needed support in how to grow their income and to find a way forward to reach their potential. With a 2-day workshop I worked with the Director and the management team - identifying what was holding them back, setting new long-term aspirational goals plus deciding on strategic priorities for the next couple of years and what organisational structure would be needed.

In 2018 UNHCR introduced its new Private Sector Fundraising and Partnerships strategy. Part of the strategy was to expand UNHCR's private sector fundraising to new markets. I was hired as a consultant to produce a comprehensive report and presentation on the Norwegian fundraising market and the possible opportunities for UNHCR. I also outline different scenarios on how UNHCR could enter the market.
